First Time At Hot Yoga – Personal Experience
Intimidating, Vulnerable and Eye Opening.
Those are the three things I experienced my first Hot Yoga session! Getting back into shape is tough when you are not sure which direction you need to go and also, if you aren’t disciplined enough, you won’t have much willpower. I, myself, can admit, I can do BETTER when it comes to physical fitness!
I recently, upon advice from a close friend, to try Hot Yoga! Instantly, after hearing her rave about it, I thought I need to do it!! I purchased an Unlimited One Month Pass to Oxygen Yoga and Fitness and the first class I joined was the Hot Fast and Furious Fusion – little did I know that it was pretty intense, especially for my first time. However, I got through it and yes, it was hot and they don’t lie when they tell you, that you will be dripping sweat!
Feelings of intimidation happened my first time because everyone around me attends the same class seven days a week for the past 3 years! Talk about being the newbie and everyone knowing it! I also felt a rush of intimidation because of the workout. It really was a tough one on your first try especially if you have not done hot yoga before.
I really was vulnerable because I was dripping sweat, my workout clothes were uncomfortable and the hair was matted to the forehead – it was just that moment of realization that you look unacceptable but at the same time, your body is on fire and you love it. Halfway through the class, there were moments where I tried to push my body harder and harder, then realized I was feeling lightheaded. You really deserve to go at your own pace and to listen to your body!
My whole experience was eye-opening because until you truly throw yourself into something, out of your comfort zone, you truly don’t learn and experience how strong your body is and how far it can go. The music was loud and fantastic for that upbeat mood! After all – 6am is pretty early! I cannot wait to do a class each day for thirty days and to share my experience throughout my 4 weeks!
My overall experience after my first class has been nothing but amazing! The class was full and the energy was great! The instructors are very compassionate and also informative. They make you feel welcomed and not judged which in that type of scenario, you need to not have the judgement card played.
